Set your camera to it's highest pixel setting, and medium resolution for normal use.
Buy rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride batteries, and charger if your camera did not
      come with rechargeable batteries.
Controlling the flash settings on your camera can greatly improve your end results.
Auto focusing is effective from 3 ft. to infinity on most cameras if you are closer that 3' us close-up, or macro settings on the camera.
The camera focuses on the area in the center of the viewfinder. I the subject is off center use focus lock.
Digital zoom is a way to crop your image in the camera, and as is the case when cropping the computer there is a quality loss. This feature is useful in close up photos as well as sports and scenery shots.
To compensate for photos in snow, or very bright back rounds increase exposure    by +2
In situations with dark, or black back rounds decrease exposure by -1.
When taking photos to be stitched together go from left to right, and overlap by 25%.

Clean your hard drive once a month, or after installing new software. This should include “disk clean up”, scan disk (thorough), and defragging.
If your computer is slow when working with image files install more RAM. It is a lot cheaper than buying a new computer. (128 meg RAM $20-$40, 256 meg $50-60, for units less than four years old)
Reformat your camera cards after erasing.
Always make up folders for different categories of images.
Rename all images before filing.
Always resize images to be used for e-mail, or illustrations.
Make sure that the printer properties are correctly set before printing photos.
Back up data on your hard drive regularly.
If you don't have a card reader buy one.
